If you're using someone else's iPhone, you can place an emergency call or view the iPhone owner's Medical ID without unlocking the phone. This can be a life saver for the iPhone owner and yourself.
Place an emergency call
Go to the Lock Screen on the iPhone
Swipe up from the bottom edge of the iPhone or press the Home Button
Tap Emergency, then make the call or tap Medical ID
